NC State Volleyball Opens Season With 3-0 Win

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State opened its season Friday afternoon with a 3-0 victory over The Citadel, winning with scores of 30-15, 30-9, 30-24 in the first match of the Wolfpack Classic hosted by NC State at Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack posted 17 blocks and 10 service aces in its debut.
Senior middle blocker Adeola Kosoko led the way for NC State, hitting a .429 attack percentage with a team-high 13 kills, eight digs and four blocks. Senior middle blocker Stefani Eddins added five kills and four blocks and sophomore right side hitter Ashley Wallace had a team best five blocks. Junior setter Melissa Rabe registered 29 assists and freshman libero Kelley Blakewood aced four serves.
Blakewood was joined by fellow freshmen Karlie Urbaniak and Aiwane Iboaya,in making their collegiate debuts. The Wolfpack held the Cadets to a -.039 attack percentage and NC State's 17 total blocks ranks second in school history for a home tournaments. The 30-9 win in game two is the widest margin of defeat for the Wolfpack since NC State beat Marshall 30-9 in the second game of a 2001 match.
NC State improves to 1-0 on the season while The Citadel falls to 0-3. The Wolfpack Classic continues at 2:30 with Campbell versus Fordham. Citadel returns to the floor at 5:00 to take on South Carolina State before NC State plays Campbell in the 7:30 nightcap.
