Volleyball Sends Four to U.S. National Team Tryouts
RALEIGH, N.C. – Four NC State volleyball netters will attend the USA Volleyball National Team tryouts, Feb. 19-21 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. Jana Angel, Margaret Salata, Alex Smith and Kelly Wood will all make the trip.
The audition will mark the second-straight year that Salata, Smith and Wood have been invited, while Angel will make her debut. Wood competed with the USA Youth A-2 national squad in Europe last July.
Angel, a junior middle blocker, has 150 career kills. A native of Rock Hill, S.C., her 62 total blocks this season was second most on the roster, pushing her career total to 119.
Salata, a sophomore middle blocker, was third on the roster in blocks (61) and sixth in kills (136) this year. Hailing from Buffalo Grove, Ill., she owns 296 kills, 32 service aces and 147 total blocks during her two years with the Wolfpack.
Smith, a junior from Placentia, Calif., has served as the Pack’s No. 1 setter for the past three seasons. She stands fourth in program history for career assists with 2,667, needing just 290 more to move into third-place.
Wood, a sophomore libero via Yadkinville, N.C., boasts 899 career digs. As a freshman in 2009 she posted the third-highest single season dig total in school history (486), following with the 413 (11th most) this past season.
