Merriwether Earns Third All-ACC Academic Team Selection

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the third consecutive season, NC State senior middle blocker Brie Merriwether has been named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Academic Team, announced Thursday by the conference office.
To be eligible for consideration for the All-ACC Academic Team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.
The Orlando, Fla., native graduated in December with a degree in biological sciences and is currently enrolled in chiropractic school at Life University in Marietta, Ga. She completed her undergraduate degree with a cumulative GPA of 3.986, highlighted by a perfect 4.0 in her last two semesters.
Merriwether recently garnered Capital One Academic All-America Division I Volleyball Team honors in December, after being named to the All-District Team for the second straight year the previous month.
On the court, she led the team in blocks with 123 to her credit during the 2013 season, an average of 1.18 blocks per set, which ranks among the top 10 in the ACC. She finished her career with 379 career blocks, which ties as the seventh most in Wolfpack history.
NC State concluded the 2013 campaign with a 20-12 record, including an 11-9 mark in conference play. It marked the third consecutive season that the squad has reached the 20-win plateau.
