Pack Volleyball Travels To Virginia Beach for 2nd Spring Tournament
April 5, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State volleyball team will play in its second spring tournament on Saturday when it travels to Virginia Beach, Va., for the Endless Summer Collegiate Tournament, hosted by the Virginia Coastal Volleyball Club.
Unlike the first tournament, in which the Pack split into two squads, head coach Bryan Bunn will field only one team this weekend. State will play a total of eight sets in the all-day tournament, which begins at 9 a.m.
"We will use different lineups throughout the day," Bunn said. "We want to get a good look at as many players as we can in different situations."
In the Pack's first tournament, sophomore middle blocker Morgan Cormier was the top performer, posting a team-high 27 kills.
"She led the team in points and did a great job," Bunn said. "Last year, as a freshman, she moved from the middle to the outside when we needed her and performed well. Now, she is back to where she is more comfortable."
Bunn will continue to look at his two options to replace the departed Megan Cyr, an AVCA All-American last season, at setter. Sophomore transfer from San Diego State Tanna Aljoe and freshman Maggie Speaks are vying for the spot.
"They are both developing very well," Bunn said. "It's nice to have two options at that position."
