Aug 26, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The NC State women’s volleyball team was picked to finish fifth among the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 15 teams this season by the conference’s head coaches, announced Monday by the league office.
Last season, the Wolfpack finished in a tie for fourth in the conference along with Clemson with identical 12-8 records in league play. State finished the season 22-10 overall and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
Entering his fourth season, head coach Bryan Bunn has re-established the Wolfpack volleyball team’s presence in the ACC. In 2012, the Pack won a school record 12 conference matches and posted 20 wins for the second consecutive season.
The Pack started the 2012 season victorious in its first five contests, before suffering its first defeat of the season. NC State responded to the loss by winning the next 10 games to run its record to 15-1 and register the program’s second-best start in school history.
Other teams among the top five in the poll include preseason favorite Florida State, followed by North Carolina, Miami and Notre Dame.
The 2013 squad opens the season Friday, Aug. 30 in Buffalo, N.Y., against Canisius College at 4 p.m., before returning to the court later that evening to face Cleveland State at 8 p.m.
