Volleyball to Host Hilton RTP Classic
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball program will begin its 35th season of play this weekend as it plays host to the NC State Hilton RTP Classic. Ten total matches will be played across the two-day spread, taking place at Reynolds Coliseum on Friday, Aug. 28 – Saturday, Aug. 29. Admission is free and all Wolfpack fans are encouraged to attend.
Campbell, Charleston Southern, Davidson and Morgan State round out the tournament field.
“We are excited to begin the new season at home in front of our own fans,” said head coach Charita J. Stubbs. “The entire team is looking forward to getting a fresh start and coming out strong in our opening weekend.”
NC State will play Morgan State (noon) and Charleston Southern (7 p.m.) on Friday, before battling Campbell (noon) and Davidson (7 p.m.) on Saturday.
The Pack returns 13 letterwinners from last years group that posted nine wins, the most since 2004. Two freshmen – Kelly Burns and Sarah Griggs – joined the team in time for the 2009 season.
NC State is 12-3 all-time versus the competition, having never played Charleston Southern before. The Pack has eight wins in 10 tries against Campbell, along with a 3-1 record over Davidson. The Wolfpack beat Morgan State last season in three sets at a tournament in Greenville, N.C., in the only meeting between the two programs.
