Volleyball Falls to No. 7 Florida, 3-0
GAINESVILLE, FLA. No. 7 Florida moved its home regular season tournament winning streak to 22 straight with a 3-0 decision (30-15, 30-14, 30-21) over NC State on Friday, August 31 at the Campus USA Credit Union Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. The Pack falls to 3-3 on the year with the loss, while the Gators remain undefeated at 4-0.
Lauren Zaniboni led the Pack’s offensive effort with seven kills, while Keri DeMar added six. Alex Smith hoisted 16 assists and Nikki Sweet posted six digs. Taylor Pritchard recorded the team’s lone service ace.
Marcie Hampton and Lauren Bledsoe each amassed nine kills for UF, and Angie McGinnis grabbed 26 assists. Elyse Cusack tallied 16 digs, while Janine Williams scored three service aces. In all the Gators recorded a season-high nine service aces, while hitting .420 overall.
UF took the first three points of game one and never lost the lead. A Smith kill trimmed the score to 6-4, but the Pack would only get 11 more points before Florida ended play at 30-15.
State secured the first point of the second frame, and tied the score twice, before falling 30-14. Janay Yancey pulled the red and white to within five with a kill to shrink the lead at 14-9, but the Gators offense was just too strong.
The Pack posted a match-high 11 kills in the third and final game, but it wasn’t enough. UF escaped a three-point Wolfpack run to push the score to 21-18 on a Kristina Johnson kill. Florida held the Pack to just three more points before the match ended at 30-21.
NC State will wrap up its stay at the tournament tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 1., with a 6:30 p.m. bout against Georgia Southern.
