Alston Kearns on Sportscenter's Top 10
Sept. 13, 2012
Raleigh, N.C. -
NC State sophomore Alston Kearns made a foot's-up play in Tuesday night's come-from-behind victory over UNC Wilmington at Reynolds Coliseum. The play was so impressive it landed Kearns, a sophomore from Apex, N.C., on ESPN's Top 10 Plays of the Day for Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.
The Wolfpack, trailing 2-1 in the fourth set, had just fought off match point by the Seahawks by scoring six straight points to win its first set of the match. A mishandled pass seemed to be sailing out of bounds, when Kearns chased it almost under the overhang in the end zone of the court. Unable to reach it with her hands, Kearns stuck her foot out, kicking the ball high in the air. Teammate Nikki Glass managed to hit a long return over her head and put it in play on the other side of the net. The Wolfpack eventually won the critical point with a block at the net. The Pack eventually won the match 3-2 to improve to 9-1 on the season.
