    Full ACC Release

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State freshman outside hitter Morgan Cormier of Carlsbad, Calif., was named ACC Freshman of the Week for her contributions to the Wolfpack's 3-0 record last week.

Cormier tallied 24 kills and 14 blocks in the three matches, as the Wolfpack improved to 11-1 overall and 1-0 in the ACC following its wins over UNC Wilmington, North Carolina and Ohio.

In the first match, the Wolfpack lost the first two sets and were down to match point in the third, but came back with six straight points to win 26-24. It then cruised to the next two sets and the 3-2 victory.

Against North Carolina, the Wolfpack ended Tar Heels' eight-match winning streak and handed UNC their first loss in an ACC opener since 1996. It is the first time since 1983 the Wolfpack has opened its ACC season with a win over North Carolina.

The Wolfpack plays the 10th and 11th contests in a 13-match homestand, starting Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. against Wake Forest and Friday at 7 p.m. against Duke at Reynolds Coliseum. Admission is free for all spectators.

Florida State senior outside hitter Fatma Yildirim and Georgia Tech senior outside hitter Bailey Hunter have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week.

Yildirim was named to the Flo Hyman Collegiate Cup All-Tournament Team after leading the Seminoles in kills, kills per set, and hitting percentage over the weekend. In a loss to No. 18 Pepperdine, she hit .448 with only one error and notched a double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs. Later that day, she tallied 11 more kills in a 3-0 win over Houston. Against No. 21 Ohio State, the native of Istanbul, Turkey, set a new career high with 20 kills to help the Seminoles pick up their third ranked win of the season.

Hunter helped Georgia Tech to a 2-0 record at the Georgia Tech Courtyard Classic. She was named MVP of the tournament and helped Tech to two sweeps, including a 3-0 defeat of Clemson in the ACC opener, the first sweep against the Tigers since 2005. Hunter tallied 15 kills in each match and hit over .400 in both matches with just five errors on 60 swings for an impressive weekend .500 hitting clip. She led the team with 5.00 kills per set and added 3.50 digs per set. The Hendersonville, N.C., native recorded a season-best .419 hitting percentage against Clemson. She tallied her fourth double-double of the season against Georgia State and hit for an efficient .414 percentage.
