Sept. 20, 2010
RALEIGH, N.C. -
NC State volleyball will kick off its 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference slate Tuesday, Sept. 21 against rival North Carolina.
The Wolfpack (10-2) enter the match having already amassed more victories in the 2010 season than all of last year. The squad won two preseason tournaments, the Western Carolina Tournament and the Hilton RTP Invitational.
Offensively, Becah Fogle leads the Pack, having scored 137 kills in 40 sets, good for an average of 3.42 per game. Margaret Salata boasts the highest attack percentage on the squad, hitting at a .406 clip, and Megan Cyr has paced the squad in assists all 12 matches, dishing out a total of 457.
Kelly Wood’s 139 digs are tops for the Wolfpack, while Luciana Shafer has added 123 of her own. Salata also leads NC State in total blocks, earning 48 so far in the season, 12 of which are solo efforts.
North Carolina (9-4) looks to avenge last seasons five game loss to the Wolfpack on Nov. 25, 2009. The Tarheels have battled stiff competition in preseason tournaments, including a 3-0 loss to defending national champion Penn State.
Tuesday’s match will be broadcast live on GoPack.com and Gametracker, accessible through links on the online volleyball schedule.
Fans are encouraged to attend the match, held at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The first 200 students to enter will receive free food courtesy of Domino’s Pizza. In addition, NC State scroll banners, red and white pom-poms and NC State volleyball posters and schedule cards will be available to all fans in attendance.
