Georgia Tech Beats Volleyball
ATLANTA, Ga. – NC State volleyball dropped its ACC opener at Georgia Tech on Friday, Sept. 25, in Atlanta, Ga. The loss moves the Wolfpack to 7-9 (0-1 ACC) on the year, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 8-4 (2-0 ACC).
Lisa Kretchman led the Wolfpack offense with seven kills, and Isis Gardner added six of her own. Alex Smith put up 34 set assists, while Allison Davis recorded 31 in her season debut. Lindsay Benac’s five digs was a team-best, as was Smith’s three total blocks and lone service ace.
Georgia Tech collected the first game by a 25-13 score, before swiping the second 25-20. The Yellow Jackets took the first three scores and led by as many as five at 8-3 before a Wolfpack run trimmed the score to 16-15. Both teams then exchanged points until a three-point run at 22-20 sealed the deal for the Ramblin’ Wreck.
The Pack hit a match-high .269 with 12 kills in the third stanza, but it wasn’t enough as Georgia Tech won 25-22. The Pack kept things close throughout, trailing by one late in play at 19-18, but the Yellow Jackets took six of the final 10 scores to end the night.
NC State will resume play against Clemson this coming Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. in Clemson, S.C.
