    Volleyball Ready for Weekend Road Action
    RALEIGH, N.C. The NC State volleyball team will head back to the road this weekend for two Atlantic Coast Conference showdowns in the state of Virginia. The Pack will take on UVa in Charlottesville on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m., before heading to Blacksburg to face Virginia Tech on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.

    The Wolfpack stands at 3-14 (0-7 ACC) after dropping two contests a week ago at home to No. 13 Duke and Wake Forest. Alex Smith stands ninth in the league, and tops on the Wolfpack roster, in assists with an average of 8.30 per game (498 total). Lauren Zaniboni (194 kills) and Chrissy Zirpolo (14 service aces) continue to lead the offense with team-highs in kills and aces, while Nikki Sweet stands first in digs with 192. Ashley Wallace’s 48 blocks also mark a team-best. Overall, the Pack ranks eighth in the ACC with a total of 87 service aces.

    The Cavaliers fell to 10-7 (5-3 ACC) with a five-game loss at rival Virginia Tech this past Tuesday, Oct. 9. UVa holds conference victories over Virginia Tech, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Maryland, while falling to Virginia Tech, Miami and Clemson. Virginia stands fourth in the league in kills per game (14.73), assists per game (13.63), and service aces (117), fifth in hitting percentage (.209) and sixth in blocks (150).

    The Hokies stand at 10-8 (4-4 ACC) after trumping its arch rival at home earlier in the week, and will host North Carolina on Friday before NC State comes to town. Felicia Willoughby leads the league in blocks per game with 1.56, while Michelle Lang stands third in the conference for assists per game with 11.63. As a team VT holds steady in several league categories, placing second in total blocks (199), third in digs per game (18.02) and fifth in kills per game (14.56).

    NC State will return home next week for matches against Miami and Florida State at Reynolds Coliseum. The Pack will take on the Hurricanes on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m., before hosting the Seminoles on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m.
