Hungry NC State Volleyball Team Looks to Feed on Florida State
Oct. 24, 2002
The NC State volleyball team travels to Florida State to take on the Seminoles Friday, marking the first meeting between the two teams this season. Carrying the Wolfpack into the 7 p.m. match is an appetite for victory, as NC State is still in search of its first ACC win of 2002.
The Wolfpack enters the match at 3-23 overall, 0-8 in the conference, while FSU is at 14-7, 5-3 in the ACC.
Sophomore Maya Mapp recorded 12 kills against No. 11 North Carolina Tuesday night, adding to her total of 259, the best mark on the squad. Senior outside hitter Rebecca Anderson has stepped up big for the Wolfpack lately, on both the offensive and defensive sides of the net. She is currently fourth on the team in kills (136), while also having contributed 122 digs and 29 total blocks on the year. Setter Lindi Sheppard has already surpassed her total of 717 assists in 2001, with 803 thus far. Her average of 9.12 assists per game is the seventh-best mark in the conference.
The Seminoles head into this weekend not only riding a 10-match home winning streak, but ranked second, as a team, in hitting percentage at .266. A big reason for its success has been the play of senior Kristin Frye. Frye ranks among the league's best in hitting percentage (.302) and kills (3.71 kpg). Meanwhile, fellow senior Dawn Hough features a .320 attack percentage of her own, to go with her 75 total blocks.
