Pack Volleyball Concludes Home Slate Against UNC

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's volleyball team will wrap up its home regular-season slate on Wednesday, Nov. 20, when the 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels visit Reynolds Coliseum. The match will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN3.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 20-8 record on the season, including an 11-5 mark in ACC play. Last weekend, the Pack split a pair of matches, defeating the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday before suffering its first home conference loss against Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Junior Dariyan Hopper leads the Wolfpack offensively this season with 321 kills, an average of 3.41 kills per set. Last season, the Shorewood, Ill., native collected 325 kills and needs five to surpass that total with three additional matches remaining. Recently, sophomore Tanna Aljoe and freshman Maggie Speaks have split time at the setter position with Aljoe recording 9.91 assists per set and Speaks 5.18 aps.
Defensively, senior middle blocker Brie Merriwether has been a force on the front line with a team-leading 109 blocks, highlighted by 13 solo stops. Alston Kearns, a junior from Apex, N.C., paces the squad in digs with 4.27 per set, which ranks as the sixth-best mark in the conference.
Graduate student Jovana Bjelica leads the offensive approach with 297 kills or 3.23 kills per set. Senior Kayla Berringer is second on the squad in kills with 2.23 kps. Two players have split time at the setter position for the Heels as well, with sophomore Jordan Schnabl dishing out 6.52 assists per set, while freshman Abigail Curry has recorded 5.30 aps. Junior Ece Taner is the team's libero and has registered 382 digs on the season, an average of 3.98 per set.
North Carolina won the first meeting between the two teams in 2013, as the Tar Heels secured a 3-0 win in Carmichael Arena. Last season, NC State and North Carolina split the series with each team winning on its home court.
