Pack Volleyball Makes ACC Road Trip to Pitt

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's volleyball team will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., this weekend to face the Pitt Panthers. The match will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24 and be broadcast to a national audience on ESPN3.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 20-9 record on the season, including an 11-6 mark in ACC play. The squad dropped a 3-0 decision against the 14th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels in its last outing on Wednesday.
Junior Dariyan Hopper leads the Wolfpack offensively this season with 328 kills, an average of 3.38 kills per set. Last season, the Shorewood, Ill., native collected 325 kills and has already surpassed that total with three additional matches remaining. Recently, sophomore Tanna Aljoe and freshman Maggie Speaks have split time at the setter position with Aljoe recording 9.84 assists per set and Speaks 5.37 aps.
Defensively, senior middle blocker Brie Merriwether has been a force on the front line with a team-leading 111 blocks, highlighted by 14 solo stops. Alston Kearns, a junior from Apex, N.C., paces the squad in digs with 4.30 per set, which ranks as the sixth-best in the conference.
Junior Jessica Wynn leads the offensive approach with 347 kills or 3.04 kills per set. Wynn's classmate, Kate Yeazel, is second on the squad in kills with 2.79 kps. Two players have split time at the setter position for the Panthers as well with junior Lindsey Zitzke dishing out 5.49 assists per set, while freshman Jenna Jacobson has recorded 5.25 aps. The team's libero, junior Delaney Clesen, paces the team with 459 digs, an average of 4.03 digs per set.
NC State won the first meeting between the two teams in 2013, as the Wolfpack secured a 3-2 win inside Reynolds Coliseum. The Panthers had no answer for Dariyan Hopper as the junior smashed a match-high 22 kills in the contest.
