Volleyball Primed for ACC Match at No. 15 Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. – When the NC State women's volleyball team takes the court on Wednesday, Nov. 27 against the 15th-ranked Duke Blue Devils in Cameron Indoor Stadium, it will be looking to duplicate its results from the first match between the two teams this season. The Wolfpack handed the Blue Devils their first conference loss of the season on Oct. 13, 3-1.
The Wolfpack enters the contest with a 20-10 record on the season, including an 11-7 mark in ACC play. The squad dropped a 3-0 decision against the Pitt Panthers in its last outing on Sunday.
Junior Dariyan Hopper leads the Wolfpack offensively this season with 331 kills, an average of 3.31 kills per set. Recently, sophomore Tanna Aljoe and freshman Maggie Speaks have split time at the setter position with Aljoe recording 9.84 assists per set and Speaks 5.68 aps.
Defensively, senior middle blocker Brie Merriwether has been a force on the front line with a team-leading 117 blocks, highlighted by 14 solo stops. Alston Kearns, a junior from Apex, N.C., paces the squad in digs with 4.19 per set, which ranks as the sixth-best in the conference.
The Duke Blue Devils have compiled a 25-4 record to this point in the season, including a 16-2 mark in conference action. In their most recent outings, the squad defeated the Miami Hurricanes, 3-0, before falling to No. 16 Florida State by the same margin.
Sophomore Emily Sklar leads the offensive approach with 349 kills or 3.97 kills per set. Junior Jeme Obeime is second on the squad in kills with 3.29 kps. Obeime’s classmate, Maggie Deichmeister, is the team’s setter and has dished out a conference-best 11.42 assists per set. For the season, Deichmeister has tallied 1,119 assists. The team's libero, senior Ali McCurdy, also leads the ACC with 481 digs, an average of 4.91 digs per set.
The Wolfpack hit .317 in that match as a team and limited the Blue Devils to a .213 clip. Hopper paced the squad in the contest with a match-high 18 kills and a game-high .484 hitting percentage.
