Student Internship Program
There are two 9-month internship positions available for young professionals for the Fall and Spring school semesters 2011-2012. A cover letter, resume, and two letters of recommendation are needed to apply. Graduating college seniors, graduate students, and young professionals who have a strong desire to enter the Strength and Conditioning profession are invited to apply at packinternship@gmail.com.The program is in its seventh year with over 20 past coaches who have participated as this program is designed to be highly interactive with both athletes and coaches. This hand-on style internship program is focused around the CSCCa and CSCS curriculum.The level of student initiative will determine what level of experience he or she receives. The successful candidate will be required to fulfill the job description with goals and objectives each week set forth by the director. A successful candidate will complete projects as set up by the intern director and the associated university, if applicable. Overall, this nationally competitive internship program is very comprehensive and designed to prepare a young professional for an entrance level strength and conditioning job. A student Intern should be committed to the profession of strength and conditioning; and as such, be willing and eager to participate in all facets of program development. A part of this responsibility a learning environment is encouraged in a search for scientific research that can enhance the strength and conditioning department. The student will learn to establish themselves as a coach among the athletes and will conduct him or herself accordingly. Developing a positive rapport with athletes, while maintaining a professional distance, is required. A student's actions and verbal communications are reflective of the NC State program both socially and professionally. The successful candidate will treat all coaches, administrators, visitors, and athletes with the greatest respect; and always put forth a positive attitude. The student coach will serve as a member of the strength and conditioning staff and will report directly to the internship director of Strength and Conditioning. They will earn the opportunity to coach assigned teams, under the supervision of the full-time staff, and take direction from strength and conditioning coaches for those assigned teams. The student will be expected to follow through to completion any responsibilities given to them by their supervisors. A working relationship will be maintained between the strength and conditioning staff that facilitates open communication between all parties.
