RALEIGH, N.C. - The 13th-ranked NC State rifle team will travel north to Morgantown, W. Va., this weekend for a pair of Great American Rifle Conference matchups against two of the nation's top 10 teams. The Wolfpack will meet No. 9 Ole Miss on Saturday, Nov. 10, before squaring-off against the nation's No. 1 squad in host West Virginia.

"Historically we've shot well at West Virginia's range, so our expectations are high and we're hoping to see consistent performances from each shooter this weekend,” said head coach Keith Miller. “After a great match at The Citadel, we've been honing a few rough spots in practice.  If we get good results from those efforts, we could have another record score.  We're definitely improving, we just need to stay the course and our scores will continue to climb."

The Pack will look to build upon last weekend's success, where the squad fired a program record with a 4604 combined team score against third-ranked Kentucky in Charleston. Graduate student Bryan Cross shot a personal-best with an 1153 aggregate score on the day, while junior Madeline Pike continued her early-season surge with a team-best 1163 total at the meet.

While Ole Miss is the higher-ranked squad entering Saturday’s contest, Miller is confident that the Pack can pull off the upset.

"This match is one we've been looking forward to,” said Miller. “While ranked higher than us at number nine, Mississippi is still within striking range for us. If we put together some good individual scores, we could sneak up on them.

“Against West Virginia our goals are quite different than for Mississippi,” Miller stated. “The Mountaineers have put together an extremely strong team with some top international shooters. For much of the year, they've been ranked number one, and deservedly so.  When we shoot against them we have several individual goals, but our primary team goal will be to add a few points to our team average, which should help our national ranking."

The matches will be the final two for the fall portion of the season, before the squad returns to action in 2013 against Army, Jan. 12, in Charleston, S.C.
