Stephen Furst is in his second year as a volunteer assistant with the NC State track and field program. Furst continues to train and compete as a post-collegiate athlete and in 2009 achieved personal bests in the mile (4:01 .95) at the Penn Relays and in the 5000m (13:36 .42) at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational. Furst also placed 10th at the U .S . 10K road championship at the Peachtree Road Race in a time of 29:05.
During his time in a Wolfpack uniform, Furst was an outdoor track All-American in the 5000 meters in 2008 and the Atlantic Coast Conference outdoor champion in the 5000 and 10,000 meters. He won the 2008 Penn Relays in the 5000 meters.
Furst was a two-time All-ACC performer in cross country.
A native of Goshen, N.Y., Furst graduated from NC State in 2007 in aerospace engineering and recently completed his master's degree in mechanical engineering. Furst currently is working on his PhD in mechanical engineering. Furst earned an NCAA postgraduate scholarship in the spring of 2008. He currently runs for the adidas Raleigh Track Club.
