Williams, Taylor Victorious at UCF Invitational

RALEIGH, N.C. – Redshirt junior Nathaniel Williams won the men’s discus and redshirt sophomore Tremanisha Taylor collected her fifth-straight victory in the women’s shot put, as NC State concluded competition at the UCF Invitational in Orlando Fla.
Williams recorded his first top finish of the season in the men’s discus with a 180’ 2.00” throw, while Jule Rich (168’ 11.00”) and Grant Pearce (165’ 7.00) were close behind in third and fourth place, respectively.
Taylor took home the top spot in the women’s shot put with a toss of 50’ 9.25” and placed second in the women’s discus with a 167’ 1.00” throw. Taylor’s shot put victory was her fifth consecutive dating back to her first-place finish Feb. 16 at the Kent Taylor Invitational during the indoor season.
The Wolfpack also wrapped up competition at the Kent Taylor Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., where Sharese Roberts recorded victories in the women’s 200 and 400-meter races. Roberts clocked a 25.65 time in the 200-meter dash, before turning in a personal-best 57.23 mark in the 400-meter dash to take home top honors.
Daniel Fretz won the men’s 200-meter dash in 22.23 and also ran the third-leg on the Pack’s winning 4x400-meter relay team. The relay squad comprised of Kevin Permenter, Austin Jackson, Fretz, and Brian Davis turned in a time of 3:18.47 to lead the field.
NC State will host its annual Raleigh Relays next Friday and Saturday, Mar. 29-30, at Derr Track. Competition is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m., Friday morning.
