Engels, Moye Medal at USA Junior Track & Field Championships
June 22, 2013
DES MOINES - Freshmen Craig Engels and Megan Moye recorded top-three finishes in their respective 1,500-meter events, highlighting NC State's fourth day at the 2013 USA Junior Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon.
Engels, who placed third in the junior men's 1,500-meter prelims just one day prior, was one of three runners in a group that made a breakaway dash for the finish line on the final lap. The Pfafftown, N.C., native was barely edged out by Stanford's Justin Brinkley for top honors, but garnered a silver medal with a time of 3:46.77. The top three finishers all finished within three-hundredths of a second (0.29) of one another.
Moye clocked a career-best 4:30.19 in the junior women's 1,500-meter race, and finished in third place to earn a bronze medal. Moye's time was more than 12 seconds better than her performance in Friday's prelims, where she posted the eighth-best mark among qualifiers.
Senior Kris Kornegay-Gober will compete in the men's high jump on the final day of the 2013 USA Track & Field Championships Sunday, June 23. The event is scheduled to begin at 2:45 p.m. (ET).
