Shepherd Named South Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS – Senior jumper Karimah Shepherd was named the South Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year, as announced Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
With the honor, Shepherd completed a sweep of the award after earning the same recognition for her performance during the indoor season.
A Chesapeake, Va., native, Shepherd was the first ACC Champion in the women’s long jump in NC State history with a mark of 20’ 7.25” (6.28m). She qualified for the NCAA Finals in both the long jump and the triple jump, placing fourth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump at the NCAA East Prelims
Shepherd was also a dual ACC Champion in the women’s long jump and triple jump during the indoor season, and went on to earn second-team All-America honors in both events at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
