June 27, 2013
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Seven members of the NC State track and field team were named to the 2013 All-ACC Men's and Women's Track and Field Academic teams, announced Thursday by the league office.
NC State is the only ACC school with more than one selection to the academic team to have all of its honorees compete at the NCAA East Regional this spring.
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade-point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his/her academic career.
Redshirt seniors Brian Himelright and Andie Cozzarelli received recognition for the third time each, while sophomores Jule Rich and Joanna Thompson garnered honors for the second-straight season. Redshirt juniors Andrew Colley and Erin Mercer, as well as freshman Alexis Perry, were listed for the first time.
NC State is the only school in the league with two student-athletes to receive recognition multiple times on the men's side. For the women, the Wolfpack is one of just three ACC members to accomplish the same feat.
Colley earned All-America honors after his 12th-place finish in the men's 5,000-meter event at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships, while Thompson took 11th in the women's 10,000-meter run to earn her first All-America nod.
Himelright was an NCAA qualifier in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Rich in the men's discus throw, Cozzarelli in the women's 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs, Mercer in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and 5,000-meter run and Perry in the women's 100-meter hurdles.
