RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State freshman Samantha George has been selected to represent Team USA at the 2013 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships. The event will take place at the Manchester Golf Club in Mandeville, Jamaica on Saturday, Jan. 26.
“It’s definitely a huge honor to be selected to represent Team USA in such a prestigious event,” George said. “It should be a really great experience.”
A Raleigh, N.C., native, George also garnered All-ACC honors in her debut season after finishing the ACC Championship's 6K course in Blacksburg, Va., with a time of 20:46.8.
“Going through this past cross country season, I started realizing that maybe I could go to these kinds of cross country races all over the world,” George said. “It’s really exciting. I just really want to take the whole experience in and enjoy myself.”
George, the 2012 ACC Women's Freshman of the Year, will compete in the junior women's 4K race. Joining her on the squad will be Meghan McGovern from the College of William & Mary and Regan Mullen, a 2012 All-American attending Division II Colorado Christian University. Rounding out the group will be a pair of distinguished distance runners at the high school level, comprised of Bobbie Burgess, who finished ninth at the 2012 Foot Locker Nationals, and Erin Finn, who is the national high school record-holder for the indoor 5,000m.
