WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - No. 17 NC State's pitching staff rose to the occasion in Sunday's rubber match, holding Wake Forest to two runs on six hits as the Wolfpack took the series with a 5-2 win at Gene Hooks Field.

The Pack (16-5, 3-3 ACC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third on Bryan Adametz's two-run double. The Deacons (12-10, 1-5) cut that lead in half with a run in the fourth before State responded with two more in the fifth and one in the seventh to stretch the lead to 5-1. Wake loaded the bases in the eighth, but only scored once as the Wolfpack bullpen came through again for the win.

NC State starter Ethan Ogburn (2-1) scored the win with a commanding 5 2/3 innings, scattering five hits while striking out four. Ogburn retired eight Deacons in a row at one point, and his only run allowed was unearned. Anthony Tzamtzis pitched the next two innings, striking out a pair while giving up one earned run on one hit. Grant Sasser and Chris Overman closed the door by combining for 1 1/3 innings of one-hit ball. Overman captured his third save of the year by recording the final two outs.

Adametz's crucial two-RBI double highlighted his 1-for-3 performance with a run scored. Brett Austin had the Pack's only multi-hit outing, going 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend his team-leading hit streak to 10 games.

Jake Fincher stepped into the lead-off spot and responded with two runs on a bunt single and a walk. Tarran Senay and Will Nance accounted for one RBI each. Grant Clyde scored twice in a 1-for-3 effort with a double.

Wake Forest starter Matt Pirro (3-2) took the loss on four earned over 4 1/3 innings. Mark McCoy pitched the next 2 2/3, allowing one earned on two hits. Connor Kaden finished the game by holding the Wolfpack to one hit during the final two innings.

Clyde's double to right center started the first State rally in the third. Fincher legged out a bunt single behind him to put runners on the corners with nobody out. Adametz doubled to left center next, scoring the pair.

After Wake Forest trimmed the lead to 2-1, Clyde started another rally with a walk in the fifth. Adametz walked with one out to put runners on the corners. Austin singled as the first batter faced by McCoy. That hit loaded the bases for Senay, who pushed a run across by drawing a walk. Nance hit into a fielder's choice to score the next run.

Leading 4-1, State added an insurance run in the seventh. Fincher walked and moved to second on a sac bunt, then stole third with one away. Austin singled next to score him. The Pack bullpen navigated its way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the eighth and rolled through the ninth to preserve its perfect record in save situations.
