    No. 16 Wolfpack Falls in Game One at Virginia

    CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - No. 16 NC State dropped game one of a doubleheader at No. 11 Virginia on Saturday at Davenport Field, by a score of 8-2.

    The Wolfpack (16-7, 3-4 ACC) scored in the top of the first and held a 1-0 lead into the fifth. The Cavaliers (20-2, 5-2) responded with two in the bottom fifth to take a lead. State answered immediately to tie the game 2-2 in the sixth, before Virginia retook a one-run lead in the seventh. The Cavs ran away with a five-run eighth to set the final at 8-2.

    Brett Austin drove in the first run of the game, part of a 2-for-4 outing. Brett Williams matched him with a 2-for-4 day with one RBI. Bryan Adametz and Logan Ratledge eached scored on their only hits of the ballgame.

    Carlos Rodon took a no decision after holding Virginia to two hits through 5 2/3 innings. Rodon struck out eight, and has at least eight strikeouts in all six of his starts this season. Andrew Woeck (2-1) took the loss on two earned over 1 1/3. The Pack used four pitchers in Virginia's five-run eighth.

    Virginia reliever Austin Young (1-0) scored the win in 3 1/3 innings of no-hit relief. Starter Brandon Waddell gave up two earned on six hits over the first 5 2/3.
