RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State baseball built a two-run lead in the first inning, but the Wolfpack bats fell silent the rest of the way, allowing Maryland to come back for a 3-2 win on Saturday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Pack (18-10, 4-7 ACC) strung together all three of its hits in the bottom first to take a 2-0 lead. Maryland (15-11, 4-7) cut that lead in half in the fourth, and tied the game in the fifth. The Terrapins pushed the winning run across in the seventh.

Tarran Senay came up with the Wolfpack’s biggest hit of the night, driving in a pair in the first. Brett Austin and Trea Turner scored after reaching with their only hits of the evening.

Maryland pitchers Brady Kirkpatrick (3-3) and Kevin Mooney shut it down from there. The pair combined to retire 25 of the next 28 batters after Senay’s single. None of the Pack’s final 28 batters recorded a hit. Kirkpatrick went seven innings, allowing two earned on three hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Mooney picked up his third save of the year by surrendering just one walk over the final two frames.

NC State starter Ethan Ogburn ended up with a no decision after giving up two earned on seven hits in five innings. Josh Easley (2-2) took the loss on one earned in 1 1/3 innings. Andrew Woeck held the Terrapins to one hit over the final 2 1/3.

Austin led off the game with a first-pitch single up the middle. Turner followed him with a single through the right side. Jake Fincher bunted the pair into scoring position for the first out. Senay cashed in the first two runs of the game with a single to center.

Maryland cut the lead to 2-1 in the fourth when Kyle Convissar was hit by a pitch with one out. Kevin Martir singled to right to put runners on the corners. K.J. Hockaday drove in the run with an RBI single to left. The Terps knotted the score in the fifth after Andrew Amaro led off the inning with a single up the middle. A bunt moved him to second, where LaMonte Wade scored him with a single to right.

The game-winning run crossed in the top seventh. Amaro hit a one-out bunt single to reach, then stole second. Charlie White singled to left to put Amaro on third. Wade’s sac bunt scored the run on a safety squeeze.
