CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - No. 19 NC State finished off a sweep of Boston College with a 3-2 comeback win on Sunday behind six no-hit innings from freshman lefthander Brad Stone.

The Wolfpack (28-10, 11-7 ACC) battled through six and a half scoreless innings before Boston College (6-29, 0-17) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the seventh. The Pack rallied with three runs in the top of the eighth to capture its third come-from-behind victory of the weekend. State won its 10th-straight, its eighth-straight ACC contest, and now boasts wins in 12th of its last 13.

The Wolfpack scratched out a win despite only three hits on the afternoon. Stone’s career-best eight strikeouts helped the cause significantly. The freshman tied his career long by going 6 1/3, and held BC hitless until the bottom of the seventh. He left with a no decision after giving up one earned.

Andrew Woeck (4-1) claimed the win on 2/3 of an inning as the first reliever out of the Wolfpack bullpen. Chris Overman pitched a perfect eighth inning to preserve a 3-1 lead. Grant Sasser earned his fifth save of the season by holding the Eagles to one earned in the ninth.

Brett Williams and Brett Austin provided one RBI each. Trea Turner scored once and doubled. Matt Bergquist scored the game-winning run in a 1-for-1 day with a walk and a sac bunt.

BC’s Blake Butera broke up Stone’s no-hit bid in the bottom seventh with a single to left. After a swinging strikeout for the first out, John Hennessy split the fielders in right center with an RBI double to put Boston College on top 1-0 and chase Stone from the game. Woeck entered there and escaped the inning without any further damage.

State responded in the top of the eighth, started by a bunt by Grant Clyde who reached when the BC first baseman allowed the throw across to get by him. Bergquist kept the Pack alive by battling back from an 0-2 count to draw a walk and put runners on first and second with nobody out.

Turner laid down a sac bunt and reached on a throwing error by the pitcher. Pinch runner Logan Ratledge scored from second on that play to tie the game 1-1. The error allowed both Turner and Bergquist to move into scoring position.

Austin provided a sac fly to left to give State a 2-1 lead. After an intentional walk to Tarran Senay, Williams singled to left to stretch the lead to 3-1. A 6-3 double play on a chopper up the middle from the next batter ended the inning.

Boston College made it interesting in the ninth. Hennessy was hit by a pitch with one out to start the rally. Luke Hoggarth followed him with a double to left center to put two in scoring position with one away. A groundball to first represented the second out, but brought in a run to make it 3-2, and pushed Hoggarth to third. A check-swinging strikeout by the next batter ended the game.

NC State returns to action on Tuesday, April 16 with a visit to Charlotte at 6 p.m. Radio coverage will be provided by 88.1 WKNC. Fans can follow along with live stats on, or on Twitter via @NCStateBaseball.
