NC State's Carlos Rodon earned ACC Pitcher of the Week honors despite taking a 1-0 loss in last Friday's 15-strikeout performance against Georgia Tech.
The Wolfpack rallied to take the last two games of the series and stay alive in its pursuit of a postseason bid. Rodon is the only losing pitcher to be awarded ACC Pitcher of the Week in 2014.
Rodon (3-7) fanned 10 of the first 11 batters he faced. Georgia Tech (26-17, 12-10 ACC) did not put a ball in play for the first three innings. The junior lefthander's no-hit bid was broken up with two outs in the fourth, on a single up the middle. The Yellow Jackets scored the game's lone run on a two-out RBI single to right center in the sixth. Rodon went the distance, holding Tech to one earned on six hits and two walks.
Rodon's 15 strikeouts come one shy of his career high, 16 set against Florida Atlantic on March 2, 2013. For his career, Rodon has 413 strikeouts, the fourth most in ACC history. Rodon became the first Wolfpacker, and fourth player in ACC history to cross 400 on Friday night. Rodon has 17 double-digit strikeout performances in his career.
With 94 strikeouts for the season, Rodon climbs into a tie with Maryland's Jake Stinnett for tops in the ACC. His 15 strikeouts are a season high, marking the third time this year that Rodon has eclipsed 12 in a start.
