Pack Set for ACC Tournament
May 21, 2013
No. 9 NC State travels to Durham this week for the 2013 ACC Baseball Championship, beginning for the Wolfpack on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Clemson.
The Pack (42-13, 19-10 ACC) finished the regular season ranked inside the top 10, and remains in the discussion for a possible national seed. State's 42 regular season wins are the second most in program history. The Pack's .764 winning percentage ranks fifth in school history. The Wolfpack's 19 ACC wins tie the 2012 squad for the school record.
NC State begins pool play with Clemson on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Pack does not play on Thursday, but returns to action on Friday at 11 a.m. against Miami. State wraps up pool play on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against North Carolina.
Carlos Rodon is slated to start Saturday's game. In three career appearances against UNC, Rodon holds a 1.21 ERA through 22.1 IP with 29 strikeouts. In last year's ACC Tournament, Rodon tied his then-career high with 12 strikeouts over nine shutout innings against the Tar Heels.
After the worst outing of his career at Boston College, Rodon has rebounded with wins in each of his last five starts. The sophomore has gone at least 6 2/3 innings in each appearance since, tallied double figure strikeouts in three of five, and sports a 2.50 ERA for that stretch.
Rodon joined Trea Turner on the All-ACC First Team, announced Monday by the conference. Senior first baseman Tarran Senay captured a second team honor to give the Pack three or more all-conference honorees for the second consecutive year.
Every game of pool play will be televised on Regional Sports Networks, carried locally by Fox Sports South and FSCarolinas, and streamed on ESPN3. Sunday's championship game will be televised on ESPN2. Radio coverage for all of the Wolfpack's games will be handled by 88.1 WKNC.
