NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The NC State men's basketball team traveled to new ACC member Notre Dame and captured its first league victory of the season with a 77-70 win at the Joyce Center on Tuesday night.

T.J. Warren led the way with 17 points as one of four Wolfpack players to score in double figures on the night. Anthony 'Cat' Barber added 16 points while both Desmond Lee and Ralston Turner each had 12 for the Pack (11-4, 1-1 ACC).

"For our team, this was a great bounce-back win," NC State head coach Mark Gottfried said. "We had a tough second half against Pitt and I liked the fact that our guys showed some resiliency and bounced back and beat a good team today. Notre Dame, I think, is very good. They're hard to guard. I thought our guys did a good job of following the plan that we want to use. We had good balance in our scoring. I thought defensively we did a good job in the second half of never letting them get in a good rhythm. This was a good team win for our group."

With NC State leading 67-63 with 1:44 on the clock, Barber converted two free throws to give the Pack a 69-63 lead. Notre Dame's Steve Vasturia followed with a 3-pointer from the corner to cut the lead in half. From there, NC State would go to Warren with less than a minute left.

The ACC's leading scorer drove to the basket and shook off contact but missed the shot. The rebound was loose on the floor and the Wolfpack recovered with 48.9 seconds remaining. Following the scrum, Warren and Barber iced the game at the foul line, combining for 5-for-6 shooting as Notre Dame tried to extend the game but failed to do so.

NC State controlled the second half, building its lead to 51-42 with 16:05 on the clock. Notre Dame would cut the lead to 53-49 behind a flurry of 3-pointers from Pat Connaughton. The Irish were pointed to cut the lead in half but Notre Dame's Tom Knight missed a dunk.

Neither team led by more than four points in a back-and-forth first half. After Barber scored the first four points of the game to give the Pack and early lead, the Irish dumped the ball into Sherman repeatedly to gain the lead.

The Pack trailed 13-10 before a three-point play by BeeJay Anya and a lay-up by Tyler Lewis gave NCSU the lead at 15-13. State would later lead 20-17 after a Warren runner in the lane at the 9:45 mark. NC State would lead 24-20 at the 7:49 mark and the two teams would continue to go trade baskets.

A pair of free throws by Turner put NCSU ahead 36-34 but Notre Dame went to Sherman again. His jump hook tied the game as the first half clock was running out. Barber took the ball up the right sideline and fired a half-court shot as the buzzer sounder. The heave banked in and gave the Wolfpack momentum and a 39-36 halftime lead.

It was the third road win for NC State in the last three weeks, as the Wolfpack have defeated Tennessee, UNCG and Notre Dame consecutively on the road.

Notre Dame was led by Sherman's 21 points and 18 rebounds. Connaughton scored 15 points on five made 3-pointers.

NC State returns to action Saturday, Jan. 11 when it hosts Virginia. The game versus the Cavaliers will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 5 p.m.
