March 22, 2013
DAYTON, Ohio - Juniors Lorenzo Brown and C.J. Leslie combined to scored 42 of NC State's 72 points, and senior Richard Howell recorded his 18th double-double of the year, but the Pack's season concluded with a 76-72 setback against Temple in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Brown finished the day with 22 points and nine assists, while Leslie had 20 points and five rebounds. Howell had a solid performance with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
NC State (24-11), the No. 8 seed, trailed most of the game, but senior Scott Wood began a Wolfpack rally when he hit consecutive 3-pointers to cut the Temple lead to 63-60 with 3:10 left in the game.
The Pack's rally was held off as Temple hit its free throws down the stretch.
Wood finished with 10 points and was one of four NC State starters to reach double-figure scoring.
NC State owned an advantage on the boards, outrebounding Temple, 34-22.
Howell and Wood leave NC State owning several Wolfpack career marks.
Howell is only the fifth player in Wolfpack history record both 1,000 points and a 1,000 rebounds, finishing his Wolfpack career with 1,214 points and 1,055 rebounds. His 31 career double-doubles are the most by a Wolfpack player since Todd Fuller had 39 from 1993-96. Howell is the school's all-time leader in offensive rebounds with 392.
Wood's 334 made 3-pointers are the most in program history and fifth all-time in ACC history. His 136 career starts are also the most in Wolfpack annals. For his career, Wood shot 89 percent from the free throw line, the third best mark in ACC history.
For the second straight year, the Wolfpack posted 24 wins and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. The Pack's 48 combined wins over the last two years are the most in back-to-back seasons since 1981-82 and 1982-83 (48).
