AWENDAW, S.C. – Junior Logan Harrell won The Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday, leading the NC State men’s golf team to a second-place finish at Bulls Bay Golf Club.
Harrell’s winning total of 3-under 213 marks his first victory at NC State, and gives the Wolfpack four individual titles in this event in the last six years. Matt Hill won in 2008 and 2010, and Mitch Sutton brought home the title in 2011.
The Wolfpack placed second at 13-over 877 after a 5-under 283 score during Tuesday’s final round, the second best number of the day. Duke edged out the Wolfpack to win at +10, while Wake Forest finished third at +20 to give the ACC a 1-2-3 finish.
Harrell began the day in a tie for seventh, but set a blistering pace this morning with seven birdies in his first 12 holes. He compiled eight all together in shooting a 6-under 66.
Junior All-American Albin Choi shot a 1-over 73 today to finish up at 1-under 215 and into a tie for third, his eighth top-6 finish in nine tournaments this season.
Senior Mitch Sutton tied for fifth at 2-over 218. He played a steady tournament with 10 birdies and nothing worse than bogey over the two-day event.
Freshman Carter Page rallied from a tough day on Monday with a 2-under 70 performance on Tuesday, moving up 14 spots to finish tied for 60th at 18-over 234. Four birdies in his third round propelled Page to record the second-best score of the day for the Wolfpack.
Classmate Chad Cox finished tied for 71st at +19.
The Wolfpack is back in action April 6-7 at the Irish Creek Collegiate in Kannapolis, N.C.
