Feb. 20, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men’s golf team is beginning its 2014 spring season in fine fashion, heading to the Caribbean to play at the 2014 Puerto Rico Classic from Feb. 23-25. The three-day event will be played at the Rio Mar Country Club’s River Course and will be hosted by Purdue University.
The tournament will be 54 holes, with 18 being played on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Sunday’s action will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Designed by Greg Norman, the River Course spans 6,945 yards and plays a par of 72.
One of the most elite tournaments of the year, this competition will feature five top-10 teams (No. 1 Alabama, No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 7 Georgia, No. 9 Virginia Tech, and No. 10 Oklahoma) and 10 top-50 teams.
This will be a familiar tournament for the Wolfpack, as NC State placed ninth of 15 teams at the same competition last season. Albin Choi was the headliner for NC State, winning the tournament with a 12-under-par score of 204.
Fans can follow the scores live on Golfstat. GoPack.com will also provide daily recaps of the action.
State enters the 2014 spring season after earning two top-three finishes last fall. The Wolfpack took second (of 14) at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate in mid September and earned third place (of 17) at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate in early October.
