NC State travels to College Park, Md. this week for the first two legs of the ACC Tournament, beginning with a match Monday, November 5 against Virginia Tech at 1 p.m.
The Wolfpack (10-9, 1-7 ACC) drew the eight-seed and plays ninth-seeded Virginia Tech (6-9-3, 0-7-1) Monday for an opportunity to take on top seed Maryland on Tuesday at 7 p.m. If the Pack can navigate those two challenges, the ACC Tournament semifinals await on Friday, November 9 in Germantown, Md.
State claimed a win over the Hokies in the last meeting between these two, grinding out a 1-0 victory behind Danny DiPrima’s goal in the 64th minute. The ACC’s second-leading scorer Alex Martinez played a role in the win as well, earning credit for an assist on DiPrima’s score.
Martinez enters the week trailing Maryland’s Patrick Mullins by one point on the ACC scoring leaderboard. Martinez holds a share of third in the conference with 10 goals, and leads the ACC with nine assists.
NC State leads the all-time series with Virginia Tech 14-5-1, and won the last postseason meeting 1-0 in the 2011 ACC Tournament. State has won each of the last four meetings with the Hokies.
