RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 27 NC State men's tennis team earned its seventh consecutive win with a 7-2 victory against visiting East Carolina on Tuesday afternoon at Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium. The match marked the first outdoor contest of the season for the Wolfpack, as the squad improves to 9-1 on the season.

"I'm happy that we picked up a good win," said head coach Jon Choboy. "I told the guys earlier today that ECU would be ready to play. They've played some tough matches and they're a good team."

The Wolfpack captured the doubles point for the seventh time this season to open the match, with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions. At the No. 2 spot in the lineup, the 28th-ranked duo of Sean Weber and Nick Horton defeated Fredric Lehfeldt and Damien Brenard, 8-4. A few moments later, the tandem of Ian Dempster and Robbie Mudge sealed the opening point for the Pack with an 8-4 victory against Joran Vliegen and Colin Roller. With the victory, Dempster and Mudge remain unbeaten with an 11-0 overall record, including a 9-0 mark in the dual season.

"Ian and Rob balance each other out exceptionally well in doubles," Choboy said. "They're both ferocious competitors. I think they're becoming accustomed to what each other is doing and are gelling really well as a team."

State continued its impressive play at the No. 3 position, as Thomas Weigel and Simon Norenius recorded an 8-5 victory against ECU's team of Patriek Wolterbeek and Miles Holvoet.

In singles, the Pack captured the first three matches of the day to take a 4-0 lead. At the No. 6 position, Norenius defeated Blake Gregory, 6-2, 6-0, while Weber overwhelmed Soriano at the No. 3 spot in the lineup, 6-2, 6-0. Moments later, Austin Powell captured a 6-2, 6-3 victory from the No. 2 position to give the Pack a commanding 4-0 lead. The win for Powell is his team-leading 19th of the season.

ECU earned a victory at the No. 1 position, as 13th-ranked Vliegen defeated Mudge, 6-4, 6-3.

At the No. 4 position of the lineup, Weigel clinched the match for the Pack with a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (3) victory against Lehfeldt of the Pirates. Meanwhile, Beck Bond cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Colin Roller at No. 7 singles, before Horton suffered a hard fought loss at the No. 5 position against ECU's Brenard, 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-5.

At the eighth spot in the lineup, Dempster earned a straight-set victory against Jared Morris, 6-0, 6-2.

Up next, the Pack will travel to Evanston, Ill., to take on Northwestern on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. ET
