Pack Advances to Final Day of the Duke Fab Four Invitational

CARY, N.C. - All four of the men's tennis players competing in the Duke Fab Four Invitational advanced to the final day of play on Sunday.
NC State players played a total of eight matches on Saturday, with each player competing in two and came away victorious in five of those matches.
Dave Thomson took a tough loss to top-ranked Henrique Cunha of Duke 6-1, 6-3, but rebounded with a win over Michael Lippens of Louisville, 6-2, 6-4. Thomson will compete in the fifth place match against Sebastian Stiefelmeyer (Louisville) on Sunday at 9 a.m.
In the black bracket, Sean Weber opened the day with a win against Albert Wagner (Louisville) 7-6, 2-6, 6-3. Weber dropped his second match of the day to Chris Mengel (Duke) 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, but advances to the third place match in that bracket on Sunday against Daniil Proskura (Duke).
Austin Powell suffered a tough loss to the No. 12-ranked Anthony Rossi of Kentucky on Friday, but he would not be denied on day two collecting victories in both of his matches in straight sets. Powell defeated Carlos Taborga of Alabama 6-0, 6-1, before later knocking off Chris Simich (Louisville) 7-5, 6-4. Powell will face Thomas Dehaen of Radford in the consolation finals on Sunday.
Also competing in the black bracket was Ivan Sanchez Gomez, who lost his opening match to Raphael Hemmeler (Duke) 6-3, 6-3, but defeated Brian Kowalski of Elon in his second match 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (5). Sanchez Gomez will face Stefan Fortmann (Elon) on Sunday.
In doubles play, Thomson and Weber fell to Michael Redlicki and Jason Tahir (Duke) 8-4 in the finals match of the white bracket.
All of the singles matches on Sunday will be at 9 a.m.
