Men's Tennis Posts Eight Wins at ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C. – Junior Robbie Mudge of the NC State men’s tennis team advanced to the round of 16 in singles and doubles on Friday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at Cary Tennis Park.
The morning began with two rounds of doubles and State posted six victories throughout. Junior Simon Norenius and freshman Parker McGuiness teamed up to win two matches on the day. In the Round of 64, the Pack duo downed Stuart Depaolo and Johan Skattum of UNC, 8-3, before outlasting Duke’s pair of TJ Pura and Bruno Semenzato in a tiebreak, 8-7 (2).
The duo of Mudge and senior Sean Weber will face the third-seeded duo of Chip Cox and Kyle Koch of South Carolina on Saturday after securing their position into the round of 16. In the first round, the duo outlasted Coastal Carolina’s Leo Christofides and Phillipe Tsangarides, 8-6. In the round of 32, Mudge and Weber defeated Clemson’s pair of Alejandro Bueno and Fernando Sanchez, 8-4.
In singles, Mudge and sophomore Thomas Weigel made it through to the round of 16. Mudge will face Danny Mack of UNC Greensboro after defeating Cox in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6 (0). Weigel defeated teammate Austin Powell in three sets, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4, and will face sixth-seeded Hunter Harrington of Clemson.
Two rounds of singles and one round of doubles will begin on Saturday at 10 a.m.
