Feb. 17, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - After more than a week off since its last match, the NC State men's tennis team is set to return to the courts, as the squad will host East Carolina at the Curtis & Jaqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Stadium (weather permitting) on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
"We're excited about having ECU come here tomorrow," said head coach Jon Choboy. "Their No. 1 singles player is very highly ranked and their top doubles pair is also very good. They're a tough team and it'll be a good match for us."
Last time out, the Wolfpack posted victories against No. 26 South Carolina and Longwood in a doubleheader. Junior Robbie Mudge, who earned ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week last week, captured two victories in doubles and one win in singles throughout the afternoon, including a thrilling three-set victory against No. 103 Kyle Koch of South Carolina, 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1), to seal the match for the Pack from the No. 2 position.
The Pirates come to Raleigh with a 9-2 overall record this season after dropping their last match to Coastal Carolina on Feb. 15, 4-1. In singles, the squad is led by Joran Vliegen, who is listed No. 13 in the nation. Tuesday's match between the two programs will be the 43rd all-time meeting, with the Wolfpack leading the series, 36-6. In the last match between the two schools, State earned a 6-1 victory in Raleigh during the 2012 campaign.
Tuesday's match will also serve as Sorority Night. The sorority that brings the most members to the match will win $100 towards its organization's philanthropy. In addition, prizes will be raffled throughout the match, including gift cards to various shops in Cameron Village.
Fans are urged to park in the West Deck, which can be accessed off of Varsity Drive.
