March 6, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 19 NC State men's tennis team is set to return to action following a 12-day break, as the squad prepares to host three matches this weekend. The Wolfpack will host Appalachian State (12 p.m.) and Winthrop (5 p.m.) on Friday, March 7 before opening ACC play against No. 10 Duke (3 p.m.) on Sunday, March 9.
Earlier this week, State was listed No. 19 in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA). The ranking ties the highest ranking in the program's history, as the 2007 squad that advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships was also listed 19th.
State will open Friday by welcoming Appalachian State into the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center for a match set to begin at noon. The Mountaineers bring a 4-2 ledger on the season to Raleigh. This match will mark the 16th all-time meeting between the two schools, as State owns the series lead, 14-1.
The Pack's second match of the day on Friday against No. 74 Winthrop is set for a 5 p.m. first serve. The Eagles are 6-5 on the season entering play this weekend. Friday's match will be the second all-time meeting between the two programs, as the Wolfpack won the first contest.
The Pack will open the conference portion of its schedule on Sunday, March 9 against No. 10 Duke. The Blue Devils boast four ranked singles players, including Michael Redlicki (No. 37), Jason Tahir (No. 40), Fred Saba (No. 58) and Bruno Semenzato (No. 94). In addition, Redlicki and Tahir come in as the No. 33 ranked doubles pair in the country.
Sunday's match will also be Wolfpack Fan Appreciation Day where fans have the opportunity to win t-shirts throughout the match. Posters and schedule cards will also be available for fans in attendance.
Fans attending the matches throughout the weekend are urged to park in the West Deck, which can be accessed off of Varsity Drive.
