    Men's Tennis Set to Open Fall at Duke Fab Four Invite

    Tournament Draws

    RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State men’s tennis team will open its fall slate Friday when it plays in the Duke Fab Four Invitational at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Singles and doubles will begin Friday and continue throughout the weekend, concluding with singles on Sunday

    The Pack will be joined by nine other teams at the three-day event, including host Duke, Elon, Louisville, UNC, Radford, South Florida, VCU, Wake Forest and William & Mary.

    The tournament features three draws for singles and doubles. Overall, eight singles players who are listed in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) preseason rankings will compete in the field, including State junior Austin Powell (No. 96) and freshman Nick Horton (Fr. No. 6).

    In the blue draw, Powell and Beck Bond will represent the Pack. Powell, the No. 3 seed in the draw, will face South Florida’s Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz in the round of 16 Friday, while Bond will face Stefan Fortmann of Elon.

    A highly touted rookie from Sydney, Australia, Horton is listed as the No. 3 seed in the white draw and will make his collegiate debut against Javier Wasse of Radford. Junior Robbie Mudge will also compete in the white bracket and square off against VCU’s Jean Baptiste Mateo.

    In the black draw, senior Sean Weber will compete in the round of 16 against Elon’s Jordan Kaufman, while sophomore Thomas Weigel is set to face VCU’s Alejandro Argente.

    Powell and Bond are listed as the No. 2 seed in the white doubles draw, as the Pack team will compete against Radford’s Joe Mills and Javier Wasse. In the black doubles draw, Mudge and Weber will compete against VCU’s pair of Argente and Mateo, while Horton and Weigel are slated to compete in the blue draw against South Florida’s duo of Sasha Gozun and Vadym Kalyuzhnyy.

    Two rounds of doubles will be played Friday morning, beginning at 10 a.m., while the round of 16 in singles will get underway at 2:30 p.m.
