RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men’s tennis will take to the road this weekend for the UVA Ranked +1 Invitational held at the Snyder Tennis Center on UVA’s campus in Charlottesville, Va. Play will begin on Friday, Sept. 21 at 9 a.m. and conclude on Sunday, Sept. 23.

The UVA Ranked +1 Invitational will consist of 64 players with each school allowed to enter one unranked player for every ranked player competing. Singles play will be divided into four draws with 16 players in each and doubles will feature four draws composed of eight doubles teams’ in each.

Rafael Paez, Austin Powell, Sean Weber, and Thomas Weigel will compete in the tournament for the Wolfpack. Paez will make his season debut on Friday, while Weigel will make his collegiate debut.

"It should be a very strong tournament with all of the nationally ranked players attending, including (Austin) Powell from our team," said head coach Jon Choboy. "It looks like the weather will be nice so it should be a good weekend of tennis."

Powell and Weber both participated in the Duke Fab Four Invitational last weekend and performed well in their first action on the season. Powell went 3-1 on the weekend with his lone lost coming against No. 12-ranked Anthony Rossi of Kentucky, while Weber went 2-2 after falling in the third place match.

"Last weekend was a good overall weekend," said Choboy. "We made it to the finals in doubles and we played well in singles so it was a good tournament and a good opportunity. We put in a good week of practice so hopefully we will have another good tournament this weekend."

State will be joined in the tournament by host UVA and teams from George Washington, Illinois, Louisville, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, North Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Ole Miss, Penn State, Radford, VCU, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and William & Mary.

Play will begin at 9 a.m. each day with Friday’s schedule consisting of two rounds of doubles, followed by a round of singles. Saturday’s schedule will be vice-versa, as the players will play two rounds of singles and a round of doubles. The final rounds of doubles will conclude on Saturday and singles will conclude on Sunday.

Results from each day will be posted on
