Raleigh, N.C. -
NC State head coach Pat Popolizio has announced the 2012-13 wrestling schedule, his first season at the helm of the program.
The Pack starts its campaign with five tournaments, starting with the Wolfpack Open in Reynolds Coliseum on Nov. 11.
In addition, the Pack will also be competing in the Keystone Classic (Nov. 18), the Penn State Open (Dec. 2), the Reno Tournament (Dec. 16), and the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1).
“Our schedule has been mapped out, so we can gain valuable experience the first semester,” said Popolizio. “That experience will prepare us for ACC competition and our ultimate goal of advancing to the NCAAs."
“I am excited about all of our home dates, starting out with the Wolfpack Open. It will allow us to provide our guys with some very quality competition immediately.”
The Pack will then compete in the dual-meet part of the schedule starting on Jan. 9 with a trip to Buies Creek, N.C., to compete against Campbell and then VMI. In all, the Pack will have 11 dual meets.
The Pack’s first home dual meet of the season will be Jan. 18 against American. The Pack will also host Maryland (Feb. 9) and Duke (Feb. 20) in the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum. The Maryland match will be on ESPN3.
The ACC Tournament will take place March 9 at Maryland, and the NCAA Tournament will be held in Des Moines, Iowa this year starting March 21.
