RALEIGH, N.C. – The 2013-14 edition of the NC State wrestling team will be on display for the first time Friday night, as the Wolfpack will open the season with wrestle-offs at 7 p.m. in Carmichael Gymnasium. The event is free and open to the public, and will be held on Courts 1 & 2, which are located on the second floor.
The event will consist of nine matches, many of which will determine the starting lineup for the Wolfpack this season. Traditional team scores will not be kept and the winning team will be decided by total matches won.
Honorary Team Captains for the event will be Wolfpack Wrestling Alumni Chris Mondragon and Steve Williams. Mondragon was an All-American and three-time ACC Champion, while Williams was also an All-American and a two-time ACC Champion.

Jake DeAngelo a freshman and North Carolina state champion takes on returning NCAA qualifier sophomore Sam Speno.
Freshman Mikey Amorando, a two-time Conneticut state champion, battles senior Nijel Jones, a returning NCAA Qualifier.
Bill Cook, a redshirt sophomore and last season’s starter at 197 pounds, faces Lee Davis, a redshirt freshman transfer and Georgia state champion, in a preliminary bout.
Freshman Dylan Ceravalo, a West Virginia state champion, challenges team captain and junior All-ACC wrestler Thomas Gantt.

Cohl Fulk, a redshirt freshman and FILA Junior All-American takes on freshman Beau Donahue, a Virginia state champion.

Freshman Rodney Shepard, a North Carolina state champion, faces fellow freshman and Ohio state medalist Max Rohskopf.
Freshman Chris Wilkes, a Missouri state champion, wrestles an exhibition bout against the loser of the 141 bout, either DeAngelo or Speno.
Freshman Pete Renda, a Pennsylvania state champion, wrestles an exhibition bout against the loser of the 165 bout, either Amorando or Jones.
KaRonne Jones, a senior All-ACC performer, will face the winner of the 197 preliminary bout for the starting spot at 197, either Cook or Davis.

Freshman Shayne Brady, a New York state champion, faces the loser of the loser of the 197 preliminary bout.
Wisconsin state placer Randy Shine and New Jersey state placer Brian Hamann will wrestle for the starting spot at 149 pounds. Shine and Hamann, both freshmen, advanced through a six-man mini tournament to advance to the finals bout.
*** There will not be any matches wrestled at 125 or 285 pounds.
