RALEIGH, N.C. – Senior center Markeisha Gatling of the No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team (21-3, 8-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) continues to have a very strong season, and people around the country are taking notice. On Monday morning, Gatling was one of 10 student-athletes around the country added to the 2013-14 Wade Watch List.

Gatling is one of 35 women’s basketball players in the country currently in contention for the award. The senior has had a fantastic season for NC State, averaging 17.2 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. Gatling has held the highest shooting percentage in the country since Dec. 22, 2013 and has scored in double figures 23 straight times.

“We said from day one that as Keisha (Markeisha) Gatling goes, this team will go,” NC State head coach Wes Moore said. “She’s really stepped up and I think she is one of the top players in the country.

“It’s a great honor, obviously, to be included in this group. She is very deserving of this. She has carried us in several situations and has played a big, big part in the success this team has enjoyed. I couldn’t be happier for her because this is a great honor.”

The Wade Trophy Coalition presents the Wade Trophy to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA Division I women’s basketball player each year – one who not only excels athletically but also serves as a positive role model both on and off the court. The acclaimed Wade Watch List, from which the Wade Trophy recipient is chosen, consists of players selected on the basis of game and season statistics, leadership, character, effect on their team, and overall playing ability.

The Wade Watch List will be trimmed to 12 finalists in mid-March. The Wade Trophy Coalition will officially announce the Wade Trophy winner at the fourth annual WBCA Awards Show on Monday, April 7, which is part of the 2014 Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) National Convention, held in conjunction with the NCAA Women’s Final Four in Nashville.

NC State will next be in action on Thursday, Feb. 13 at Clemson. The Wolfpack and Tigers will tip off at 6:30 p.m.
