FAIRFAX, Va. - Junior Kody Burke of the NC State women's basketball team is a finalist for the 2013 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award as announced by Diverse: Issues In Higher Education magazine.
A two-time Academic All-America third-team selection, Burke owns a 3.92 grade-point-average as a business administration major.
The Northridge, Calif., native was also selected last week to the ACC All-Academic Team for the third time.
She leads the Wolfpack in scoring (13.5), rebounding (7.2) and blocked shots (1.6) per game.
To be included, students have to compete in an intercollegiate sport; maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2; and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
The winners will be profiled in the April 11, 2013 edition of Diverse: Issues in Higher Education. The finalists were chosen from over 500 outstanding minority student-athletes nominated by their respective institutions. The NCAA is the co-sponsor of this annual award.
