    Wolfpack to Play Two at San Diego Surf `N Slam Tournament

    SAN DIEGO – In the last seven days, the NC State women’s basketball team defeated No. 12 LSU, collected a combined 34 votes in the AP/USA Today Top-25 polls, and earned one Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week award (Markeisha Gatling). On Saturday, the Wolfpack hopes to carry this success into a new week as it begins play at the 2013 San Diego Surf ‘N Slam tournament Saturday against Kansas State.

    Tip-off between the Wolfpack (11-1) and Wildcats (5-4) is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. (EST) at Viejas Arena in downtown San Diego. The game will be broadcast live on WKNC 88.1 FM with Patrick Kinas and Rachel Stockdale calling the action live.

    Depending upon the results of Saturday’s games, NC State will play either host San Diego State or UC Riverside Monday at 6:30 p.m. (EST) or 9 p.m. (EST).

    Following State’s 89-79 win over No. 12 LSU on Dec. 20, the Wolfpack received a combined 34 votes in the latest AP (22 votes) and USA Today (12) top-25 polls.

    On Dec. 23, Markeisha Gatling was named the ACC Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness ACC Player of the Week for her dominating 25-point, eight-rebound performance in NC State’s Dec. 20 win over No. 12 LSU.

    As of the most recent NCAA statistical rankings release, NC State senior center Markeisha Gatling is the holder of the best shooting percentage in the country at 71.7 percent from the field. As a team, NC State’s mark of 48.3 percent from the field ranks seventh in the country and third in the ACC.

    With an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.37, NC State ranks 10th in the NCAA and second in the ACC.

    In just 12 games this season, senior center Markeisha Gatling has recorded more 20-point games (4) than she did during all of the 2012-13 campaign (1).

    Not only is the Wolfpack winning games, but it is doing so in dominating fashion. NC State is averaging 22.3 more points per game than its opponents and has won nine games by 15 points or more.

    On 360 made field goals in 2013-14, NC State has provided 235 assists (65.3 percent) while allowing just 113 assists on 247 made field goals (45.7 percent) by its opponents.

    In eight of its 11 wins this season, NC State has not trailed for a single second. In all 11, the Wolfpack has been behind for only 254 of a possible 26,400 seconds.
