Early Wakeup Call Helps Pack Climb #NCAAWGolf Standings
May 21, 2014
TULSA, Okla. - The NC State women's golf team shot +4 as a team at the NCAA Women's Golf Championship on Wednesday, the second best round of the day. The round of 284 helped the Pack jump 10 spots in the team standings.
The Wolfpack is now 13th in the 24-team field and shaved 23 shots off its 307 score on Tuesday.
NC State woke up to find a slightly calmer wind at Tulsa Country Club, and teeing off in the morning paid off. By mid-afternoon, the Wolfpack walked into the clubhouse with a better second-round total than tournament leaders Oklahoma, Duke and Arizona State. Only Michigan State (+3) had a better day than head coach Page Marsh's squad.
"I was really proud of them today. They really came back and fought hard and played with a lot of determination," Marsh said. "Today, they were really steady and determined. I still think about things as a four-day event. You break that down shot-by-shot, it's very methodical."
Augusta James and Lindsay McGetrick each shot an even par 70 and Ana Menendez added a 71. McGetrick bettered her Tuesday round by eight shots and Menendez improved by 11 shots. James is tied for 28th in the 126-player field.
NC State will tee off Thursday morning at 9:36 a.m. ET.
