RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State head gymnastics coach Mark Stevenson announced the program’s 2013 schedule on Wednesday. The squad will once again face a challenging slate, including four teams that finished the 2012 season ranked in the top-25 of the polls.

“We’re really excited about the schedule this year,” said Stevenson. “Our schedule is really loaded, but we’ve got some great teams coming in and we’re also traveling to some really good teams.”

The Wolfpack will open the season on the road, Jan. 4, at Southeastern Conference powerhouse Louisiana State. The Pack will compete in a home and away series with LSU for the first time in program history when LSU returns to Raleigh on Mar. 15.

State will travel to the University of Denver for its first quad-meet of the season on Feb. 2, and will be joined by Air Force Academy and San Jose State University who will also be competing in the meet.

The annual Sweetheart Invitational will be held on Saturday, Feb. 16, at Reynolds Coliseum. Bowling Green, George Washington, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and William & Mary will participate in the meet along with the Pack for the first regular season six-team meet since 2002.

“The Sweetheart Invitational will be good because it gives us the same set-up that we will have for NCAA Regionals,” Stevenson said. “It will give our athletes the feel of that type of competition prior to the postseason, so it’s a really nice meet.”

The Pack opens East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) play on Jan. 11 at home against Maryland and the team will travel to the Terrapins on Feb. 8. State will compete against other EAGL members New Hampshire (Jan. 18), West Virginia (Jan. 25), North Carolina and Pittsburgh at the Sweetheart Invitational (Feb. 16), and complete the regular season conference schedule with another match-up against North Carolina.

NC State closes out the regular season schedule by hosting perennial powerhouse, University of Georgia on senior day (Mar. 17).
