Getting to Know Freshman Brittni Watkins

    Oct. 26, 2012

    RALEIGH, N.C. -

NC State freshman Brittni Watkins discusses her experiences as a member of the Wolfpack gymnastics team.

Watkins attended Saratoga Springs High School in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and competed at the World Class Gymnastics Center. In 2011, Watkins finished first on floor and fourth on vault at regionals. The Wolfpack freshman qualified for the 2010 and 2009 JO Nationals in the all-around, claiming a ninth place finish on floor in 2010. How has you experience been here at NC State?
BW: "It's been busy. I don't have time for much extra outside of gymnastics and school, but its awesome. It's hectic, but I get everything done that I need to get done and I have a couple of hours at night for myself."

What's the best part about being a member of the gymnastics team?
BW: "The best part is the team. They're always there for me when I need them and I can always count on them. The coaches are also great and they're for us too."

What's been the toughest adjustment from high school to college for you?
BW: "It would probably be balancing gymnastics and schoolwork. It's very hard to stay on top of your schoolwork, but I've learned to manage my time better."

How much have the upperclassmen helped you as far as the transition from high school to college?
BW: "They've helped me out a ton. Every question I have, they're always there for me with a great answer. I can ask them anything, whether it's school related or family related, it doesn't matter, they're always there."

What's your favorite part of campus?
BW: "My favorite part of campus would be Talley [Student Center]. I love the subs from Lil Dino's." How excited are you about the first meet of the season?
BW: "I'm a little nervous, but I know that we have a great team and I think we will do well."
